Much of Lake County, Illinois was underwater from the insane storms that have been rolling through. Towns that haven’t ever seen floods suddenly saw themselves rescuing motorists from streets that turned into rivers.
I think my old town is still underwater as well as many other places near bodies of water.
My mum’s house doesn’t have a lake behind it...that’s a field, a pretty flat one at that. At its highest, the water almost crossed the property line. That hasn’t ever happened before.
Some roads were underwater that were major routes. On those routes there were actually police officers directing traffic through the most shallow bits.
Many side roads were just completely impassable or were a maze of danger.
Some people were very unlucky :(
And the storm that brewed it.
To get home from work, I had to do a deep water crossing. The water got to just a few inches under the intake. Thank heavens for good seals in a smart!!
My parents and I spent the night bailing out the basement in their rental property. Apparently the window wells filled up with water, the glass broke from the pressure, and in came all the water. The sump pump couldn’t keep up.
Stay safe out there everyone!

None of this would be a problem in a lifted ForTwo.

When I was driving through some of it I had that exact thought “I could go so much deeper if I had the lift before this”.

We flood pretty regularly down here in Louisiana. It’s always a mess. The floods last August shut down both I-10 and I-12, the two primary routes through the Baton Rouge area.
I feel your pain.

That was a pretty intense storm. We got side-swiped down here with a period of insane rain. Nothing like you guys got though. My dad in Deerfield and my sister in Gurnee both got water in their basement.

Almost lost the Milan in a flood in Metro Detroit once. I was trying desperately (this was road attempt 3) to get to my kid at daycare (Parents will risk a lot to get to their kid). After finding this 3rd road not passable in the Milan I thought I’d take a stab at the neighborhood roads and ducked into a neighborhood. Thankfully a guy goofing on his bike in the flood rode into the middle of the road and waved frantically at me to indicate it was too deep. It was way past his knees and he was probably around 6 foot. I slammed the brakes, threw it in reverse and gunned it out of there. Ripping off my front license plate on the way out (just a fun Michigan State one at the time, no big deal). Water splashed onto the hood as I got into reverse and just barely got out. Turned out I got a bit of water on the floor boards/carpets but that’s it.
One road I was about to drive down I saw an XJ Cherokee driving at me and I went, oh, ok I can get through that it’s not that high up his tires.....son of a...it’s on a 4-6 inch lift! with probably 35 inch tires! Turn it around!!!!
Finally got to a passable road around attempt 6 and saw an MKX go through and it wasn’t really passed the center of his wheels so I just chanced it and made it through.
Floods be crazy

I took a picture of that same storm system when it when by Indianapolis. I thought the very defined line of clouds was pretty cool looking.

I live on top of a hill. Unfortunately, the standalone garage is directly downhill from that, and half of its floor was flooded over this morning. I have some serious landscaping to do, that should have been done a long time ago...

Wow, floods are wild. I am glad you and your family are safe. Hopefully nothing of value was ruined in the basement.

They’re mindblowing! Thankfully the rental property is still being remodeled so there wasn’t any damage aside from the broken windows. They’re definitely going to have to excavate those window well drains though.

Are these pictures from today or yesterday? A bunch of roads are still flooded today. Getting to and from work has not been fun these past two days

Yesterday! I encountered more flooded roads myself today. Whew, at least my main route was clear.

Hey! Hope all’s well! Was wondering if you have any non-apple (because all of the reasons) phone recommendations. Leaning toward pixel xl, with the g6 and force z kind of being tied at close second. But this is most definitely not my area of expertise.

Hiya! Things have gotten amazingly better over the weekend. Amazingly, I somehow always manage to land on my feet nowadays.
As far as your question, I have some interesting answers.
I’d recommend the Pixel XL for the purest Android experience money can buy.If you hate bloatware or manufacturer skinning, the Pixel is your pick. Though outside of pure Android, roms without voiding warranty, and Google Fi, I don’t really see much reason to get a Pixel.
To me, the design of the phone is absolutely confusing. In a world where almost every flagship is trying to get rid of bezels, the Pixel has two huge bezels and the bottom one does nothing...which also means you have on-screen softkeys. What really turns me away from the Pixel is the half-glass rear design. For me, it kinda just feels...unfinished? Maybe an afterthought?
As for your other two picks, I have not had much time to play with either phone, but both LG and Motorola make great phones so I don’t think you could go wrong with either. If I had to choose, I would probably buy the LG. I like the larger screen, IP68 water resistance, dual cameras...and I’m a sucker for pretty glass. xD But of course, I would try an Android phone before buying it. You never know if they have some deal-breaking quirk. :)

Glad to hear it!
I ended up going with the pixel XL. I have the same reservations as you and I’m not a real big fan of on screen soft keys, but I’m getting used to it. Not a big fan of the design overall, but then again I don’t need a sexy phone (which my HTC was OMG that naked aluminum case). I need functional. Which this is proving to be.
The IP reading doesn’t bother me because I’m actually very easy on my phones. Never water damaged one, never cracked a screen, just a few scratches on the HTC over more than two years of use without a case. But glass backs bother me a little bit so we’ll see how this goes.
So far, I’m very happy with it’s performance.
